Apprentice Millwright
I heard about AltaSteel through a family friend shortly after I was laid off from the oilfield. Prior to AltaSteel I worked for a couple of years in the forestry industry in industrial maintenance. I accepted a position as an Entry Level Operator with AltaSteel with hopes of starting a Millwright apprenticeship one day.
As an operator with AltaSteel, initially I was trained to operate a forklift and worked in the Stores department. After a few months I bid on an internal opportunity and made the move into Bar Mill Operations as a Guide Assembler. Having a mechanical background the transition to Guide Assembler was more in line with my interests and easy to take on. I applied to the Apprenticeship Program and was lucky enough to successfully make it through all stages of the selection process.
Now, after one year of employment, I am currently working towards my Journeyman Millwright certification, my dream job with a great company. Waking up every day doing what I love to do with amazing benefits, great co-workers, and a 15 minute drive from home is why I love working at AltaSteel. As a new, young employee it is a great reliable job that I can start building my life and family off of; that’s why I would recommend applying to AltaSteel.
